The transformative practice of crafting meaningful narratives about our lives to make sense of the past, understand the present and shape the future through StoryWork.

Image

A revolutionary approach to writing powerful creative nonfiction to achieve a multitude of goals that may shift over time; memoir as a tool for self-discovery, healing, personal growth, authentic self-expression, creative expansion and/or career development (including publication).

StoryWork empowers us to become the fully expressed authors of our stories and our lives.

Through storying we uncover the roots of our deepest fears, beliefs and desires–the fuel that ignites the stories we most urgently feel called to write. Storying is identity work. When we re-write old narratives, we re-wire our brains and step into exciting new possibilities. Storying is how I come to know myself, honour my desires, and achieve my goals as a writer, in my relationships and professional life.

- Nicole breit

Founder, The R/evolution Story Lab

This is how you create your future and become extraordinarily powerful.

I’m Nicole Breit, a queer, neurodivergent, award-winning creative nonfiction writer, bestselling author, and StoryWork coach.

And yes, storying and StoryWork are words I’ve claimed…because I believe in defining things on my own terms.

In my world, writing creative nonfiction (i.e. storying) is about more than craft or catharsis.

It is poesis: a creative process aimed at enriching perception and fostering meaning-making.

Storying has made it possible for me to establish myself as an award-winning essayist and bestselling author–but its impact has run much deeper than my professional achievements.

The transformation I’ve experienced through storying has been life changing. And it has for the writers and seekers I’ve coached over the years, too.

Storying resists the narrative that writers have to bleed on the page in order to heal, convince others they’re a “real artist” or to get published.

It’s an approach that prioritizes curiosity, playfulness and experimentation as a means to growth, evolution, expansion.

StoryWork is how we reclaim our voices and write ourselves into our most courageous, wildly alive futures.

Over the past eight years, I’ve guided thousands of writers as they unlock their stories and create something much more impactful than just words on a page.

What they experience is beautiful and profound.

Storying allows us to step into the rest of our lives… differently.

By healing the past we create new possibilities for… everything.

We have the power to manifest realities that once felt… out of reach.

Although we can’t change the past, we can change our story. And big shifts take place when we greet our unmasked selves on the page.

Reclaiming our stories is fierce.

Radical and revolutionary.

We don’t just write a story. We live more authentically.

Intentionally. Powerfully. Fully.

This is what happens when writers and seekers come together inside The R/evolution Story Lab…

Where brave truths are claimed, bold stories are witnessed, and we expand–personally and collectively.

Writing is the medium. Evolution is the outcome.

When we story together, we amplify what is possible.

We become mirrors, catalysts, and co-conspirators in each other’s unfolding as we pursue our individual journeys as creators.

This unique community is about shaping our lives through storying…together.

Join us. Bring your truth.

Ignite what’s next.

welcome to your evolution

R/evolution Story Lab is a living, breathing co-created ecosystem for writers, seekers, and explorers who are ready to bring their fullest selves to the page… and beyond.

It’s different from other writing communities because it recognizes that storying is vulnerable, truth-seeking, meaning-making work best practiced when craft instruction is offered in an environment that validates the process.

That’s why I designed R/SL as a supported learning space where I host live teaching sessions that honour the vulnerability of the brave storying work we do. From time to time I also share a peek inside my own creative process for a glimpse at how a working writer gets through a messy draft!

But as someone who knows how vulnerable it is to write, share and discuss stories about my life, I also felt it was vitally important that we could hold the community by creating a space that feels safe and supported.

That’s why The R/evolution Story Lab is facilitated by our incredible Community Manager, Marisa–a board-certified genetic counselor and yoga teacher with over 20 years of experience integrating science and somatic awareness to support connection, mindfulness, and relational safety across diverse groups.

In this potent creative space, writing, personal growth, and inclusive community converge to ignite the kind of transformation that changes everything.

Here, we story together intentionally, boldly, expansively. It’s where we gather to write, grow, experiment, and shape the lives we’re here to claim.

The Lab is a moderated and co-created space

where community and creative fire converge.

Courses, creative challenges, write-ins, guest talks, and high vibe connection designed to meet you right where you are and carry you into what’s next.

If you feel the spark, you already belong.

The Lab is not…

…a collection of courses with a “community” tacked on as an afterthought.

…a Facebook group where your words (and soul) get lost in the scroll.

…a workshop for tearing down drafts, learning the basics of writing, or trauma dumping.

And it’s definitely not a place to perform, shrink yourself, or code-switch to fit in.

R/evolution Story Lab IS a revolution of a writing collective.

It is not a writing group, it is a movement about writing authentically and continuing to expand our talents and library of work. It’s intimate at the same time it’s universal in connecting the sensibilities and desires of those who are called to write. These are my people. R/SL is where we meet.

But if you…

…are a radical truth-teller, ready to story your way into what comes next.

…feel the pull towards your fully expressed life through the power of writing your whole, uncensored self into existence.

…are a boundary-breaker, edge walker, and/or visionary who knows that your story is the catalyst for what’s unfolding…

Then this space is for you.

“The conversation threads facilitated by Marisa are incredibly valuable. That's what really makes the community. You answer, and then someone else comments, and they might have a similar experience to yours, and you know you're not alone. Or their experience is different, and you have the chance to feel understood. It's a beautiful community of creatives (people share about other creative endeavors too!) who are supporting each other, not trying to one-up each other.”

Where science meets soul, and writing becomes your power.

We’ve been storying for thousands of years.

Since the beginning of time, we’ve turned to story to understand who we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re going. Before we had data, we had narrative. Before strategy, we had shared myths.

Today, neuroscience affirms what storytellers have always known:

writing changes us.

Putting language to experience activates multiple regions of the brain, integrating emotion, memory, and cognition. When we story our lives on the page, we’re not just recording what’s happened — we’re re-patterning our inner world. We’re creating new neural pathways, new possibilities, and new futures.

Whether you’re…

  • A seeker using story as a practice to make sense of your unfolding journey

  • An author on a mission to craft new work and see it through to publication

  • Or anywhere in between…

Writing is both the tool and the transformation. Your mission may be deeply personal, fiercely creative, or visionary — storying quite literally changes your mind and empowers you to shape what comes next in your life.

Learn, Explore, and Transform

module 0: The Spark Your Story Method

Write past blocks like fear, self doubt, and resistance with my 5-part mini-course.

You’ll follow a simple but powerful process that will help you pinpoint life changing moments and explore the impact of your experiences.

You’ll learn:

  • techniques for discovering your most potent material

  • how to write past blocks like fear + resistance

  • the secret to crafting stronger, more compelling, and innovative first drafts

  • how to avoid large scale overwhelm with my story-meet-form strategy

Module 1: Origin Stories

Where do your stories begin?

Origin stories are the narratives we construct to explain how we landed where we are in our lives. As we reflect on our origins, beginnings and firsts, let’s also consider new questions: Where do I go now? How can I reconcile the past? How will I set myself free?

You'll learn how to:

  • assess each story idea to uncover your most potent material

  • use “perhapsing” to speculate gaps in ancestral memory

  • explore early memories in a diptych essay

Module 2: The Emergent Self

Explore identity + the process of individuation (perhaps as it is expressed in your creativity, sexuality and/or spirituality).

How do you become who you are? Let’s consider what is innate, what draws you near – your true calling – as you write about your dreams and all you hope to achieve.

You'll learn how to:

  • craft powerful essays using three essential techniques

  • write a potent micro-essay by practicing compression

  • explore vulnerable material in a hermit crab essay

Module 3: The Body

An invitation to write about physicality –

your body’s abilities, limitations, and achievements. Stories about healing and wellness, carnal pleasures and sensory delights.

What does the body know and remember? As you explore memories around birth, aging, and death you’ll practice embodied writing.

You'll learn how to:

  • revise effortlessly using the attentive noticing technique

  • write sensual imagery by writing from the body’s POV

  • balance showing + telling in a photo essay

Module 4: Where The Heart Is

Let’s explore the objects of our affection, desire or passion,

or the cause of our heartbreak as we ask: If the heart had its wish, what would be fulfilled?

What is your heart’s most secret desire? So many stories find inspiration in the stirrings of the heart – tales of friendship, romance, familial love, self-love, universal love.

You'll learn how to:

  • make readers feel what you feel using mood + atmosphere

  • practice self-care tools when working with difficult material

  • effectively structure a story in three parts

Module 5: The Bigger World

Broaden our horizons as we examine the self in relation to the world we live in.

Where do you truly belong? These stories explore your relationship to community and/or place (geographical regions, places you’ve lived or travelled to, the planet).

You'll learn:

  • how to use identity markers to situate your story in a greater cultural, social or geographical context

  • guidelines for effective re-vision

  • link thoughts, memory + images in a collage essay

Module 6: Nature + The Spirit

Investigate stories about our amazing universe, religion and ritual; your beliefs (or those you doubt, reject, dismiss); moments when you felt a sense of wonder or oneness.

How do you connect with wonder? What is your relationship to mystery and the unknown? How do you get closer to the wisdom you seek?

You'll learn how to:

  • make the intangible “tangible” with concrete detail

  • polish your work + prepare for publication

  • build and arrange a powerful lyric essay

“I joined R/SL for the coursework and found something I didn't know I needed: a community of practice. There’s space to share weekly intentions on Mondays, celebrate accomplishments on Fridays, and in between, explore writing prompts, ask for help, complain, and cheerlead. Within my first week of joining, a prompt led to a piece and a nudge from Nicole led to a submission. R/SL has made the writing life feel less solitary—more like hanging out on a playground than sitting in the library.”

- Amberly Polidor

“R/SL provides a delightful and intergenerational space that connects me with writers moving forward within their own creative nonfiction or other writing. I have an increased attention to my work and higher value of it in my own life. Nicole's quality courses, and her other invited teacher sessions support my writing and creative growth. Easy access to lessons and replays provides an essential element for my learning style.”

- Reba Gabel

Revolutionary

“The main value of R/SL for me is the twofold nature of craft development and huge emphasis on community and engaging with each other. My writing has gotten much more precise as a result of the workshops I've done with Nicole, and having a community to engage with, hear from, cheer on and be cheered on by is a perfect way to hold myself accountable to staying in my writing!”

“Being part of R/evolution is like being plugged into a daily conduit of inspiration and motivation. I can fall into a habit of believing I will write ‘when I have the time,’ but being part of this community - one that is active every day - keeps my fingers on the keyboard, and more importantly, my desire to write at the forefront. Simply put, I am writing and submitting more because of R/SL."

“I have been taking writing classes and have been in writing groups since the pandemic. Nothing was wrong in any of them, but nothing felt right either. With R/SL, I found my people. Encouraging communication, writing challenges, and learning more about creative nonfiction. I joined a month ago and I am beginning to explore the benefits. I know my writing will strengthen with these connections.”

Questions

What exactly is the R/Evolution Story Lab?

This is a co-created inclusive space where storying, personal growth, and community converge. It’s not a single program with a start and a finish; it’s a living hub for every phase of your evolving storying journey.

Who is this space for?

Creators, change agents, luminaries, truth tellers, seekers + meaning makers. Creative edgewalkers who feel the pull to express and embody their fullest, most authentic selves through storying. Whether you write for personal growth, publication, or transformation, you are a Revolutionary. You belong here.

What if I don’t consider myself “a writer”?

Perfect. This space is about growth, evolution and transformation through story, not fitting into a box. If you feel drawn to explore your life through story — however that looks — you’re welcome here.

How is this different from taking one of your courses?

Courses have a beginning and an end. The Lab is an ongoing membership designed to support you through every phase of your storying journey. It’s both a co-created living community and the container for all of my programs, including new + past trainings, weekly writing challenges, resources, and events designed to meet you where you are and carry you into what’s next.

Will I get feedback on my writing?

In R/SL you’ll find encouragement, support and opportunities to share your work with other writers according to community guidelines. But The Lab isn’t a critique space for workshopping or editorial feedback.

What kind of time commitment is expected?

You set your own rhythm here. Whether you check in daily to be inspired or drop in for silent writing, a write-in or live event, this space is here to support your unique creative flow.

What if I’m working with personal or difficult material?

Many writers come to R/SL with difficult stories to tell, and finally finding a way to write them is liberating and makes way for new stories. My background in narrative therapy informs the space, but this isn’t a trauma-dumping zone. The Lab honours vulnerability while holding a safe and boundaried container for creative exploration and personal evolution.

What’s included in my membership?

Access to my full course library, live gatherings, writing challenges and a vibrant community space — as well as everything new I add along the way.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. You’re free to leave when it’s time, though many find they want to stay for the relationships, momentum, and evolution that unfold here.

Is this about craft, personal growth, or publication?

Yes. All of it. Writing is the medium. Evolution is the outcome.

It Starts With a Spark

Let’s story the future — together.
